Research Center of Biomedical Engineering (RCBE)

The Research Center for Biomedical Engineering (RCBE) is a newly developed research center at the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia, aimed at providing active contribution to solve real-world problems in communities related to the human health based on the competencies and expertise owned by engineering researchers. This area of research can be thought as the application of engineering principles or engineering instruments to the biological or medical systems. In running its activities, the center has been actively collaborating with colleagues from health related institutions such as Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing, and Faculty of Public Health in Universitas Indonesia as well as domestic industries and overseas institutions.

Research Areas

  • Molecular and Genomic Techniques in search for Biodiversity based Natural Drug
  • National Research Priority Project on Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering for Regenerative Medicine
  • Infectious Diseases Biosensor and Customized Detection System for National Health Facility

Research Centre of Biomass Valorization (RCBV)

The Research Centre of Biomass Valorization (RCBV FTUI) is an institution dedicated to processing agricultural biomass waste (lignocellulose, triglycerides, organic and inorganic materials) into high-value chemical products through green chemistry concepts. This approach aims to establish a green agriculture-based industry (green agroindustry). RCBV FTUI consists of excellent researchers, predominantly young researchers in engineering with research expertise on biomass valorization based on agriculture. Nevertheless, the need for robust collaborations with researchers and industries in Indonesia and abroad is crucial for the development and contribution of RCBV FTUI to the Indonesian nation. Additionally, reinforcing research and development infrastructure is imperative for realizing a green chemical industry based on agriculture.

Research Areas

  • Lignocellulosic- and Lipid-Based Product Development
  • Organic Waste Valorization
  • Green Supply Chain and Operations Management
